I Supported Lombardo And, I Still Support Development For Garwood

This Letter to the Editor was originally published in the October 25th, 2018 edition of the Westfield Leader.

Election Day is thankfully right around the corner. It’s been a busy political scene across most towns, but if you live in Garwood you’ve enjoyed nearly eight months of it. As most people know we had a Democratic primary here in Garwood and I was campaigning for Mayor Lombardo. However, after the June primary, I personally reached out to Sara and congratulated her and her team, and we are working together for a common cause and that cause being what is best for our Borough. We want only what is best for Garwood, and on November 6th what is best is a vote for Sara Todisco for Mayor and Michael Ince and Sean Benoit for Council. I consider myself a union democrat and a conservative when it comes to a lot of issues and believe that there is a middle ground on most issues facing us.

I believe in helping our seniors and children and our volunteers, who make up our wonderful community. Borough issues should not be democrat or republican – they should be a combination of both – as evident with the redevelopment which was bi-partisan and started more than ten years ago under Mayor McCarthy, continued under Mayor Quattrocchi and Mayor Lombardo. I have known Sara for a long time as she was also a classmate of my daughter.

“I believe that the team of Todisco, Ince, and Benoit will lead our Borough, together with others on council, both democrat and republican, into the future and will work together for what is best for all of our residents.”

It was Sara who reached out to me to ask how to get involved in Garwood after my last run for office. She is not much different than myself, an advocate for Garwood, putting in numerous hours of research and making sure you have all the facts prior to voting or recommending anything on council, not just shooting from the hip. Working with members of both parties to get someone done. As someone said to me recently, you enabled her and I guess that’s true as the democratic party and I welcomed her enthusiasm and dedication to our borough when she wanted to get involved. It was no different than when I was the young democratic wanting to be involved in the borough and I reached out to former Mayor Michael Crincoli, who welcomed me.

A vote for Sara Todisco for Mayor will be a vote for the future of our community as we move forward. As a lifelong resident, she has roots in our community and has lived through the changes that have occurred in the past 30 years. A vote for Sara will also be for inclusion of everyone, young and old, democrat, republican and independent – as we are all Garwood.

I must admit that I recently met both Michael Ince and Sean Benoit, both are independent thinkers and will bring their own experiences and knowledge to our borough. As a sister of a retired law enforcement officer and a former public employee, who believes that the disabled must have proper representation and assistance, all first responders must be properly equipped, and continue to volunteer on a few Borough committees, I believe that the team of Todisco, Ince, and Benoit will lead our Borough, together with others on council, both democrat and republican, into the future and will work together for what is best for all of our residents.

Please join me on voting on November 6th for the team of Todisco for Mayor and Ince and Benoit for Council as we move forward for all of Garwood.
