The One-Seat Commuter Ride to NYC

I would like to take a moment to commend Councilwoman Jen Blumenstock, Councilman Marc Lazarow, and Councilman Russ Graham for being so active in putting pressure on the New Jersey Legislature and NJ Transit to resume one seat rides on the Raritan Valley transit line to New York City Penn Station.

“I implore all residents of Garwood to re-elect Blumenstock, Lazarow, and Graham to Garwood Council to help keep the pressure on moving Garwood towards having a permanent one seat ride for all trains on the Raritan Valley Line.”

All three of these candidates are running for Garwood Council, and as current council people, they have addressed this issue by holding a forum at Crossroads, handing out flyers at the Newark train station, and speaking publicly to get citizens involved in putting public pressure on those entities with the power to implement direct service to New York City from Garwood and back.

For those who don’t take public transportation, the current route requires switching trains at Newark Penn Station which sometimes can result in an increased commute of at least 20 minutes at best and at worst can lead to missing catching the next train if the train is delayed. Garwood needs elected officials who understand that shorter commutes to New York City from Garwood will result in better quality of life for commuters to spend more of their time with their families as well as increase property values. With new residents set to move into the new apartments on South Avenue in the near future, having direct service will be critical to encouraging the use of public transportation. Councilwoman Jen Blumenstock, Councilman Marc Lazarow, and Councilman Russ Graham will continue to fight for better public transportation and the results already show as just this past June, the NJ legislature agreed to have NJ Transit conduct a study to determine fair allocation of direct service trains on all of the NJ transit lines based on the number of commuters on each line.

I implore all residents of Garwood to re-elect Councilwoman Jen Blumenstock, Councilman Marc Lazarow, and Councilman Russ Graham to Garwood Council to help keep the pressure on moving Garwood towards having a permanent one seat ride for all trains on the Raritan Valley Line.
